Teachers will participate in numerous learning stations and presentations covering: the Illinois oil and natural gas industry in general, petroleum geology, prospecting, legal aspects of the industry, spill remediation, drill stem testing, drilling mud, Illinois-specific geology and developing a prospect. The day will conclude with a tour of an active production site. | |

Teachers will tour an oil refinery, a crude oil storage facility, active drilling site in the Illinois Basin and the offices of multiple Illinois operators. | |

Guest speakers will discuss a variety of topics, including: careers in geology, geologist ideas for the classroom, hydraulic fracturing, drilling and producing, coring, looking for an oil show and seismicity. | |
